Press release on Japan's new anti-Russia measures
27 May 2023 12:18
1030-27-05-2023
We have noted the 20th set of sanctions by the Fumio Kishida administration against Russia, as well as Russian individuals and legal entities, which was made public on May 26. It seems that Tokyo has set itself the task of breaking into the lead when it comes to anti-Russian restrictions. We continue to monitor the practical implementation of such steps and assess their possible impact on national security and the economy. In any case, such illegitimate actions by official Tokyo will not go unanswered.
We have also noted yet another attempt by the Japanese government (represented by Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno) to accuse our country of "nuclear blackmail". The desire to ascribe to Russia a non-existent intention to use nuclear weapons in the context of the events in Ukraine is nothing other than cynical and unscrupulous speculation. There has been no change in our approach to this issue. We call on Tokyo to show similar concern with regard to the US nuclear weapons already deployed in Europe.
