
Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bairamov

On December 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bairamov.
The two foreign ministers had an in-depth discussion on the status of and the prospects for bilateral relations. They discussed the cooperative actions that should be taken next to carry out the Declaration on Allied Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was signed by the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan in Moscow on February 22, 2022. Priority attention was given to how to continue strengthening the political dialogue, developing cooperation in trade, the economy, culture and education, and to promoting inter-regional cooperation.
In the context of discussing regional affairs, the two officials reaffirmed their commitment to scrupulously comply with the provisions of the top-level trilateral agreements of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021, and October 31, 2022. In terms of practical efforts, the two officials reviewed issues relating to the resumption of transport links in the South Caucasus, the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, promoting confidence-building measures, and signing a peace treaty between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia.
The two ministers had an elaborate discussion on interaction at international and regional forums, including the UN, the OSCE and the CIS. They noted the proximity or similarity of approaches by Moscow and Baku to most of the current issues on the global agenda.
The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly and trust-based atmosphere in the spirit of the allied relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.
