On September 23, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Demeke Mekonnen on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During an in-depth discussion on key aspects of multifaceted bilateral cooperation, the ministers discussed the prospects for building up Russian-Ethiopian cooperation in various fields, with an emphasis on expanding trade, economic and cultural ties.
The parties reaffirmed their joint commitment to further close coordination between Moscow and Addis Ababa in the UN and other multilateral organisations, and reviewed preparations for the second Russia-Africa Summit. They also paid considerable attention to finding ways to resolve conflicts and stabilise the situation in the Horn of Africa region.
