On September 21, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Carlos Faria on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, which was held in a traditionally trust-based and constructive atmosphere, the ministers expressed satisfaction with progress in the Russian-Venezuelan strategic partnership and discussed priority items on the bilateral agenda, the implementation of joint projects, and prospects for stepping up trade and investment cooperation.
The ministers reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continue the close coordination of approaches at multilateral platforms, including interaction within the Group of Friends in Defence of the Charter of the United Nations in the interests of ensuring the rule of international law, forming a more just polycentric world order, and maintaining global stability and security.
When discussing the situation in Venezuela and related events, the Russian Foreign Minister noted that the country has got back on the path of steady socioeconomic development and made it clear that Russia is supportive of the continued nationwide political dialogue.
An inter-ministerial consultation plan between the foreign ministries of the two countries for 2023-2026 was signed.
Sergey Lavrov presented Carlos Faria with an Order of Friendship for his great contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
