On March 24, Brussels hosted an emergency NATO summit. Its participants again focused on the developments in Ukraine in the context of Russia's special military operation. They made their ritual accusations against Russia and threatened our country. There is no point in refuting them one by one. This summit was clearly part of NATO's self-zombification.
The participants demonstrated absolute loyalty to Washington and a willingness to follow in the wake of its instructions to comprehensively deter Russia. The announced decision to continue rendering political and practical support to the Kiev regime confirms NATO's interest in continuing the hostilities. Urging the sides to hold talks, NATO did not make a single attempt to induce Ukraine's leaders towards a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Donbass. Moreover, NATO Secretary-General Yens Stoltenberg proudly announced that in the past eight years, the alliance has trained tens of thousands of military personnel in Ukraine's armed forces, who are now taking part in the hostilities. Pumping Ukraine with weapons, Brussels provoked Kiev into using force against the LPR and the DPR, and it is now reaping the horrible results.
Now NATO officials are talking about a new reality in European security as if Brussels has nothing to do with it. The NATO members took one stone after another from the foundation of European security: they silently watched the United States destroy the ABM Treaty, stood by as Washington walked away from the INF Treaty and they allowed the Americans to renounce the Open Skies Treaty. In 2008, they announced their willingness to accept Georgia and Ukraine into NATO, and their intention to continue moving closer to Russia. They ignored all of our warnings. Now, they once again confirm their commitment to an open door policy. Everyone knows where this policy leads.
NATO officials look for any argument to justify the dangerous and destabilising arms buildup on the eastern flank. They announced the formation of four new multi-ethnic NATO battalions in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
They are preparing the ground for the long-term development of its anti-Russia course in NATO's new strategic concept at the upcoming summit in Madrid. Europe's militarisation is gaining momentum thanks to the alliance's efforts. The fanning of anti-Russia hysteria is being used to increase spending on the acquisition of new weapons from their main supplier - the US military-industrial complex.
Covering up the US's shady dealings with secret research in biological and chemical arms, the alliance groundlessly accuses Russia of a possible provocation in the best traditions of a disinformation campaign. This is not the first time it has resorted to this tactic.
Washington may list the NATO summit as an achievement in its geopolitical strategy. It has managed to enhance the discipline of its allies in working for the "total deterrence" of Russia and exerting pressure on the countries that are able to make sovereign decisions and conduct an independent policy. European claims of a certain "strategic autonomy" simply look ridiculous against this background.
