Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry

On September 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Sameh Shoukry on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The ministers considered issues related to the further development of Russian-Egyptian relations. They underscored the importance of maintaining the increased dynamics of bilateral contacts, hinging on a well-established trusting dialogue between the leaders of the two friendly countries. They also stressed their shared confidence in the fact that the Treaty of Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Cooperation between Russia and Egypt, which came into force in January 2021, would make it possible to strengthen their collaboration in trade, economic, humanitarian and other areas.
The two ministers exchanged opinions on current aspects of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa with a focus on the situation in Libya and Syria, as well as on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. Moscow and Cairo expressed their shared intention to intensify foreign policy coordination, including at the UN and other international venues.
