Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's remarks during a meeting with Sima Land employees, Yekaterinburg, September 2, 2021
2 September 202122:44
I'm stunned by this warm welcome. I'm aware that it is not so much about my coming to Yekaterinburg as it is your tradition. You express your feelings, thoughts and desires in this convincing manner. It's good to be able to enjoy this live (I have already had the chance to see it on television and online). I am grateful to Yevgeny Kuyvashev and Andrey Simanovsky for this opportunity.
I am also impressed by the way the work is organised here. Sima Land is our largest wholesale and retail company that manufactures and sells consumer goods. Everyone is aware of it. The company is an example of a business' social responsibility. It engages in charity and projects to preserve historical and cultural heritage of this region, land and people. This is important for educating young people.
I didn't plan to say anything special today. Companies like yours with young and happy bright-eyed workers are a key pillar underlying our foreign policy. Its effectiveness depends on productive growth in our country and its standing, which is determined by economy and social policy. The more such companies and success stories we have, the easier it is to uphold the interests of our citizens and businesses in the international arena. Everything is interconnected.
Thank you everyone who built this company and promotes with concrete actions and without much ado the ideas that are vitally important for our country and brings them to life. We are proud of you and are doing our best to make you proud of us.
I'm here to reiterate that you represent hope and support for our economy and statehood. This is not an overstatement. Our country will never lose its independence. With citizens like you, this is doubly so. Our history, the achievements of our ancestors and every tradition of our land leave us no choice but to stay independent.
This is a wonderful destiny and great responsibility that the country's leadership and United Russia party feel in full measure. We will do everything possible to make sure our country can live in peace and no one distracts us from constructive work (which you are doing here at Sima Land). If they don't try to put us out of temper - we are calm people and it would be difficult to do so - the economy and the well-being of our people will continue to grow consistently and steadily, and our foreign policy will focus on creating the best conditions for such development.
I took note of something. Why is it that only the girls are setting the pace? What about your young men? As our western partners say, there must be gender equality. Anyway, as the Russian tradition has it, a woman will always enjoy greater respect and love. You are doing the right thing.
