On August 21, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the initiative of the Pakistani side.
The conversation focused on the developments in Afghanistan since the Taliban movement came to power. The ministers stressed the need to contribute, including in the expanded Troika format, to fostering an inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue so as to form a representative government, and ensure stability and law and order in that country.
In addition, the ministers also spoke about some current issues of Russian-Pakistani relations, including preparations for the next regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. They also exchanged views on the opportunities for interaction between Moscow and Islamabad within the SCO and at other international platforms.
