MOSCOW, December 26th. / TASS /. Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the launch of the Avangard hypersonic system. He stated that Russia was the first in the world to receive a new type of weapon.
According to Putin, "this is a great event in the life of the Armed Forces, and, perhaps, in the life of the country." He stressed that Russia had a new type of strategic weapon. at the same time, the Russian leader made a special emphasis on the fact that "this event [the launch of the Avangard system] is not even of purely national importance, it goes beyond the framework of purely national interests." "This is a serious event," the head of state said at a meeting with members of the Russian government. He stressed: "A new type of strategic weapon in the world first appeared with us, and will reliably ensure the defense of our state, our people for decades to come."
The head of state also said that the Avangard hypersonic system will go into service in the Russian Armed Forces next year. "In 2019, a new intercontinental strategic system Avangard will enter service with the Russian army, and the first regiment will be deployed in the Strategic Missile Forces," the president said.
The President noted that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation conducted tests of the Avangard, with full success confirming all the tactical and technical characteristics.
“On my instructions, the industrial enterprises and the Ministry of Defense prepared and conducted final tests of this system,” Putin said. “It, this test, has just ended in complete success: all tactical and technical data have been confirmed.”
The Russian leader recalled that in his message to the Federal Assembly he spoke about new types of Russian weapons, including hypersonic weapons. One of these types of weapons is the Avant-garde hypersonic intercontinental range system.

The capabilities of the tested planning winged unit make it possible to bypass the zones of action of information and fire missile defense weapons, which ensures the effective overcoming of all existing and prospective missile defense systems. “The test flight test program has been completed in full, which allows the Avangard Complex to be put into service with the Strategic Missile Forces in a timely manner,” the Kremlin said.
