Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin repeatedly said Russia is seeking good relations with America and Moscow and Washington have many fields for cooperation.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is seeking good relations with the United States, but it does not mean all contentious issues will at once disappear from the agenda following Republican candidate Donald Trump's election victory, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.
"Before efforts to improve relations are made, the relations should first be removed from the 'shelf' they are on. It is clear that they have considerably degraded recently, and it is not our fault," Peskov said.
"[Russian] President [Vladimir Putin] has repeatedly said Russia is seeking good relations with America, we have many fields for cooperation and we are seeking this cooperation," he said.
"At the same time, unfortunately, we certainly far from always feel reciprocity on the part of the United States. We want mutually beneficial relations," Peskov said.
