Russia launches drills in Caspian Sea

Moscow, Aug 16, IRNA -- The Russia Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that the Russian Navy has launched maneuvers in the southwestern part of the Caspian Sea.
According to the Russia Defense Ministry statement, the maneuvers are slated to continue until Aug 20.
The Tatarstan, Grad Sviyazsk and Veliky Ustyug are among the warships that are taking part in the Caspian Sea drills along with a number of boats and warplanes.
Meanwhile, the ministry's press office on Aug 15 announced that the Russian surface action group started tactic exercises in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.
The maneuvers in the Mediterranean are held in accordance to the combat training plan of the Russian Navy.
Capabilities of the Fleet forces for actions connected with settling crisis situations caused by terrorist threats will be inspected in course of the tactic exercise.
Serpukhov and Zeleny Dol newest small-sized missile ships in cooperation with ships of the permanent formation of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea are to perform several tasks including artillery and missile firing in conditions close resembling the combat ones.
Serpukhov and Zeleny Dol newest small-sized missile ships are armed with Kalibr naval based cruise missiles. Russian ships used missiles of this class in order to carry out effective strikes on objects of the ISIS terrorist organization located in Syria in 2015.
