'Security Belt' to Be Set Around Yamal Anthrax Contamination Zone

A "security belt" will be set around the anthrax contamination zone on the Yamal Peninsula, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said Tuesday.
YEKATERINBURG (Sputnik) – Earlier this week, 90 people were hospitalized in the region after an abnormal summer heat wave triggered an outbreak of this deadly bacterial disease. Earlier in the day, the authorities said that the number of anthrax disease cases reached 20.
"We actively vaccinate deer, 42,000 have already been vaccinated. Now we are negotiating how many animals must be vaccinated on the neighboring 'clean' territories to set a 'security belts'," Skvortsova said at the press conference.
Anthrax is a serious infectious disease, which commonly affects animals. Although it is not widespread, people may get infected if they come in contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products. Anthrax cannot be spread directly from person to person, but a person's clothing and skin may be contaminated with the spores of the disease.
