Col. Alexander Gordeev said that Russian troops in the Eastern Military District (EMD) have received over 10 cutting-edge electronic warfare systems.

KHABAROVSK(Sputnik) – Russian troops in the Eastern Military District (EMD) have received over 10 cutting-edge electronic warfare systems, EMD spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeev said Tuesday.

'More than 10 modern tracked and [truck-mounted] systems entered service with one of the Eastern Military District units deployed in the Republic of Buryatia,' Gordeev told reporters.

Dubbed the SPR-2 'Rtut-B,' the frequency jamming system is designed to protect troops and equipment; it can cover staging areas as well as individual fixed and moving objects.

The second EW system, the R-330 'Mandat' named Borisoglebsk-2, boasts a range of improvements on its predecessor. These include an extended signals intelligence and electronic countermeasures frequency range, higher accuracy when positioning radiation sources and higher jamming capabilities.

Over 850 military equipment units have entered service in the EMD last year as Russia continues to implement a large-scale rearmament program to modernize its military by 70 percent in five years.
