Russia's state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom is ready to develop cooperation with Japanese equipment suppliers to construct nuclear power plants, Rosatom's first deputy CEO for international business and development said Friday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) – 'We are ready to actively invite Japanese companies to cooperate on the realization of Russian projects on construction of nuclear power plants abroad,' Kirill Komarov told reporters in Tokyo.

He said that Japanese manufacturers could supply turbines, control systems, and other equipment.

Komarov noted that Japan has large companies with long experience in nuclear power production, including Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and others. He observed that Russia has deep production capacity, but acknowledged that Rosatom has 'so many projects and demands, so that there can be enough orders for all.'

Rosatom is holding a November 26-27 workshop in Tokyo on Russian nuclear technologies for back-end power solutions. The meeting agenda will include discussions on cooperation to mitigate the consequences of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant disaster.

The 2011 tsunami caused a meltdown of several of Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant reactors resulting in the world's largest leak of radioactive material since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

In 2014, the Japanese government appointed Rosatom a partner in a demonstration project to clean radioactive isotopes from the waters around Fukushima.
