A number of Su-30 fighter jets have been deployed in Syria as part of Russia's ongoing aerial campaign against the Islamic State terrorist group, Russian media reported on Monday.
The Su-30 Flankers provide air cover for Russian bombers pounding ISIL positions across Syrian territory, Gazeta.Ru quoted Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov as saying in Moscow.
Russian aerial and space reconnaissance is working round-the-clock on the lookout for ISIL infrastructure, which is then destroyed by surgical airstrikes by Russian combat aircraft, Maj. Gen. Konashenkov said in a press –release on Monday.
On September 30th Russia launched an aerial campaign in Syria against the forces of the Islamic State terrorist group banned in many countries, including Russia.
