MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. Paratroopers from Russia's north-western Pskov region have been put on high combat alert as part of the command and staff exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
'Paratrooper detachments are currently marching to the areas of their concentration,' the statement said. 'They have deployed field command posts and communications centers.'
'Paratroopers are conducting a set of measures at their concentration areas on field camouflage, engineer and radiation reconnaissance as well as measures to counter aircraft and subversive groups of simulated enemy,' the statement said.
The ministry added the paratroopers will march to their airfields of departure for further redeployment to shooting ranges, where they will practise their training assignments.
Paratrooper detachments from the Russian Southern Military District and the Baltic Fleet were also put earlier on high combat alert as part of the command and staff exercise.
Russia's Northern Fleet, troops of the Western Military District and the Airborne Forces were alerted on Monday in a surprise combat readiness check. The exercises involve 38,000 personnel, 3,360 pieces of combat hardware, 41 battle ships, 15 submarines and 110 aircraft and helicopters.
