Russian Military on Kuril Islands to Get Brand New Laser Ranging Devices

LPR-3 is designed to determine location of ground targets. These laser ranging devices are also used for shell bursting, range finding and visual reconnaissance.

The Russian forces on the Kuril Islands will receive brand new laser ranging devices in 2015, Eastern Military District spokesman Alexander Gordeev said.

The armed forces in the Eastern Military District will receive more than 20 state-of-the-art LPR-3 laser ranging devices to replace previous versions of the rangefinders. This will 'help to enhance combat capabilities of motor-rifle and artillery forces,' Gordeev said.

The LPR-3 is designed to determine location of ground targets. They are also used for shell bursting, range finding and visual reconnaissance.
