MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Units from Russia's Eastern Command will participate in five international exercises this year, including joint-exercises with China and India, Col. Gen. Sergei Surovikin, the commander of the troops, said on Wednesday.

'The military of motorized and air units will participate in the Russian-Mongolian exercise 'Selenga' in the Zabaikalsky Territory and in Russian-Chinese drills in China. The forces of the Pacific Fleet will be involved in the Russian-Chinese manoeuvres 'Naval Interaction' in the waters of the Mediterranean and the Sea of Japan, in the Russian-Indian drills 'Indra' and in the Russian-Japanese naval exercise 'SAREX',' Surovkin said during a military council.

He added that the international exercises, besides improving interaction between units while participating in joint training and combat missions, allows for the level of preparedness of the military command to be assessed compared to the armies of other states.

Last year, the Eastern Command participated in the ground exercise 'Selenga 2014' with the armed forces of Mongolia and in multinational anti-terrorism manoeuvres as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states' 'Peace Mission 2014', as well as in joint drills by the Russia's Pacific Fleet and the Japanese Naval Forces 'SAREX 2014'.
