Russian Defense Minister Shoigu cited President Putin's words that Russia is not going to be involved in a costly arms race, but at the same time the country's defense capability is ensured.
MOSCOW, January 30 (Sputnik) – The Russian military will fulfill its task of guaranteeing superiority upon completion of the state weapons program, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Friday.
"The task set by the president of not allowing military superiority over Russia will obviously be completed," Shoigu said.
"In order to do this, the state program on arms is to be fully completed and by 2020 modern weapons and military equipment will be installed by 70 to 100 percent," Shoigu said.
Shoigu cited President Vladimir Putin's words that Russia will not be involved in a costly arms race, but the country's defense capability is ensured.
In September, speaking at a meeting on Russia's arms procurement program for 2016-2025, Putin stressed the need for the development of purely defensive high-precision weaponry in the country.
