MOSCOW, November 13 (Sputnik) — Ships and coastal troops of the Russian Caspian Flotilla ran a series of counter-terrorism drills Thursday, the Southern Army Command for Internal Ministry press service stated.
'About 400 servicemen and up to 30 arms units and equipment, and 11 surface ships, boats and supply vessels took part in the drilling,' the statement said, adding that drills on land included a scenario involving armed militants capturing a transport and attempting to infiltrate a military base. The scenario included a detail of soldiers repulsing the militant's attack while a special counter-terrorist unit waiting nearby was called in to surround and capture the enemy.
The scenario's seaborne stage included ships and crews working in detection, recovery and disarmament of underwater explosive devices, the press statement said, adding that exercises were also carried out in delivering first aid to wounded servicemen and processes regarding the discovery of abandoned boxes and bags in which explosive devices are suspected to be planted.
The drills were reported to have been conducted safely, ending successfully.
