Failure of single-polar world order obvious to everyone - Putin
23 May 2014, 16:06 -- The failure of a single-polar world order is now obvious to everyone, even to those who continue dictating their rules of the game and imposing behavioral standards, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.
'The world is changing rapidly. We are witnessing colossal geopolitical, technological and structural shifts. A single-polar world model has failed. Today, it's obvious to everyone, even to those who continue using their habitual coordinate system, trying to maintain monopoly, dictate their rules of the game in politics, trade and finances and impose cultural and behavioral standards,' Putin said during the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.
The economic shocks of 2008 were glaring proof that the development model built on unification and domination is in a deep crisis, he said.
Unfortunately, no lessons have been learnt and 'instead, we are witnessing the unwillingness to listen to new leaders of global development or heed alternative views,' Putin said. 'It is necessary to change the principles of work of key international financial institutions in line with the changing world,' he added.
