Russia Tests Ballistic Missile On Kazakh Soil

June 08, 2012

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that an intercontinental ballistic missile has been successfully test-fired from a military field in Russia.

It said the missile reached the target in Kazakhstan’s Saryshaghan missile test field.

The test was conducted on June 7, when visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbaev, signed several documents in Astana on cooperation in different fields.

The head of the Russian Federal Space Agency, Vladimir Popovkin, told journalists in Astana on June 8 that satellite launches from the Soviet-era Baikonur space center in central Kazakhstan might resume “in a month or earlier.”

Reports last week said Kazakhstan had blocked three upcoming Russian satellite launches because of a dispute over the drop zone for rocket debris.
