MOSCOW, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Defense Ministry has proposed creating an agency to promote cutting-edge research and development (R&D) projects in the interests of national security, presidential aide Arkady Dvorkovich said on Friday.
"The Defense Ministry has submitted a proposal to the president, which is being looked at by the administration," Dvorkovich said, adding that a report would be forwarded to the president in the next few days.
In late September President Dmitry Medvedev highlighted the need for a Russian answer to the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is responsible for the development of new technology for use by the military.
DARPA has around 240 personnel managing a $3.2 billion budget and focuses on short-term projects run by small, purpose-built teams.
