Russian naval task force to resume anti-piracy mission off Somalia in July
18:09 28/06/2010 MOSCOW, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - A task force led by the Admiral Levchenko destroyer will arrive in the Gulf of Aden on July 3 to resume the UN anti-piracy mission near Somalia, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
The previous task force was led by the Udaloy-class guided-missile destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov that took part in liberating the Russian Moscow University tanker hijacked on May 6.
"The task force also includes the Olekma tanker and the tugboat SB-36 of Russia's Black Sea Fleet," the statement said.
The Russian Navy has maintained a presence off the Horn of Africa with warships operating on a rotation basis. Russia joined international anti-piracy efforts off the Somali coast in October 2008.
