MOSCOW, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow is the best protected Russian city, with the sky above the Russian capital guarded by state of the art radars and air defense systems, a top air defense official said Saturday.
"Air defense forces and means provide a more effective and reliable protection to Moscow than to other cities and inhabited localities in the country," Maj. Gen. Pavel Kurachenko, a deputy chief of the Air Force's air defense, told Ekho Moskvy radio.
Kurachenko said the protection network, which now includes S-300 (SA-10 Grumble, SA-12 Giant/Gladiator) missile systems, would be improved and equipped with S-400 (SA-21 Growler) next year and with S-500 systems later.
