Russia's defense, security spending set to rise 23% in 2007
16/08/2006 11:58 MOSCOW, August 16 (RIA Novosti) - National defense, law enforcement and security spending will grow 22.7% in 2007, the Russian government said in budget and tax policy guidelines released Wednesday.
"In 2007, federal budget spending on national defense, law enforcement and state security will grow by 286.5 billion rubles [$10.5 bln]," the document said.
It said a substantial part of the increase will go toward developing and modernizing the Armed Forces, including maintenance and arms procurements.
Servicemen's wages will be increased 10% as of January 1, 2007 and 15% starting November 1.
