The head of Russia's Atomic Energy Organization, Sergei Kiriyenko, here Monday expressed hope Moscow would reach a final agreement with Tehran on the Russian proposal for setting up a joint uranium enrichment facility inside Russia.

Kiriyenko was talking to reporters at Moscow's international airport after arriving from an official visit to Iran.

He arrived in Tehran on Friday and held intensive talks with his Iranian counterpart, Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh, on the Iran-Russia cooperation in the nuclear field.

Russia has a transparent and firm stance on its proposal for joint uranium enrichment with Iran and believes all countries have the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, he said.

He added that Moscow has always stressed compliance with rules and regulations of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He assessed negotiations with Iranian officials as "difficult" but "satisfactory," and said the sides discussed a range of subjects effectively and constructively during their recently concluded Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission session.

The Russian top nuclear official stressed the importance of resolving Iran's nuclear case within the framework of the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and noted the limited time available for reaching a compromise.

He said he hoped that during the next round of Tehran-Moscow nuclear talks, scheduled to be held in Russia soon, the sides would produce a compromise on Russia's nuclear proposal.

An Iranian delegation, headed by Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Hosseini-Tash, is due to arrive in Moscow within the next few days to continue the nuclear talks with Russian officials.
