Iran-Crisis-Russia
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov here Tuesday said that sanction against Iran is not the best and the sole solution to the current nuclear crisis.

Speaking to the media, he said that his country believes that there are other effective ways to settle the issue.

Turning to the remarks by President Vladimir Putin on avoiding hasty measures, he called upon Iran to cooperate with the UN nuclear watchdog more closely so that the case is settled within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In response to a question about the approach of Russia and China to the nuclear crisis in Iran, the minister said that not only these two states, but all member sates of the agency and UN Security Council (UNSC) are against proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Lavrov made these remarks while representatives of UNSC five permanent members plus Germany convened on the issue in London on Monday.

"At the London meeting, the EU trio -- Germany, France, Britain -- US, Russia and China expressed their concern over Iran's resumption of nuclear research and called for a return to voluntary suspension.

"All the participating parties called for an extraordinary session of IAEA Board of Governors on February 2-3 for further assessment of the issue," he added.

Lavrov said that his country is determined to discuss the matter with all countries to come up with a coordinated policy.

"We believe that the agency should deal the issue professionally and that the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty should be safeguarded by all means," he concluded.
