Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov here Monday expressed surprise over some Western media reports on his country's missile technology cooperation with Iran.

Speaking at a press conference in Moscow, the Russian FM added, "Similar news were dispatched by Western media ten years ago repeatedly, the Russian government surveyed the matter on each occasion, and announced every time that they cannot possibly be true." Among others, the British Daily Telegraph newspaper had in its Sunday edition claimed that Russia has recently delivered missile and nuclear technology facilities to Iran.

Lavrov said, "It is surprising for me that the Western new media resort to such old news under the current conditions."
He said, "If you would survey the background of this news you would find some interesting hints, such as tracking the role of some Western companies in the region and their interference in region's politics."
Advising the media to refrain from politicizing and profiteering in their professional conduct, the Russian FM asked them to focus on cases where the nuclear-NPT is violated by certain countries, instead.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, who is in India to observe his country's joint military maneuvers with Indian forces, too, on Monday described the Western media's report in that regard as "ridiculous and baseless hallucination."
