BLACKSEAFOR EXERCISE UNDERWAY
MOSCOW, April 5 (RIA Novosti) - The exercise being conducted by BLACKSEAFOR, a Black Sea naval group, is now in full swing, Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo, assistant to the Russian Navy's commander-in-chief, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
"A regular exercise of BLACKSEAFOR is to become another important step towards bolstering security and mutual trust in the Black Sea area," he said.
Russia furnished the Tsezar Kunikov large landing ship to participate in the exercise. She joined combatant ships from Ukraine, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia.
According to Mr. Dygalo, early in the morning of April 5, the force arrived at a designated area where Turkish rescue ships, a Russian rescue tug and a Ukrainian rescue tug will for two days train in search and rescue of a submarine in distress. The latter is to be simulated by a Turkish diesel submarine.
On April 4, BLACKSEAFOR ships call at the port of Eregli (Turkey) where command of the Russian detachment took part in a conference of the Black Sea Naval Commanders' Committee.
The conference centered on the coming BLACKSEAFOR submarine search and rescue exercise.
