Luxembourg, March 1, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russia established very close cooperation with the EU troika to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear program and the compliance with the IAEA Board of Governors resolution, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. Summing up the results of his talks with the EU leading troika on Monday, Lavrov said, "We lauded Washington`s statement, including US President George W. Bush `s statement saying the US wants the peaceful and diplomatic solution to the Iranian problem." The minister noted that the EU troika is holding direct talks with Iran. Russia is developing cooperation with Iran that is coordinated by the EU troika, Lavrov stressed. In his words, `the exchange of views and coordinating steps, which will help move forward, will be useful for all sides`. "I had not to convince anyone in anything. Our partners know what we want together with Iran. This is in line with the IAEA resolution. Our cooperation is controlled by the IAEA is no need to convince anyone in its peaceful nature," Lavrov said. Commenting on a US senator`s proposal to exclude Russia from the G-8 due to its nu clear cooperation with Iran, Lavrov pointed out, "This is an individual view. We know that this is not a position of the US Administration. If we react on individuals` every proposal we have no time to do our job." The minister noted `the commonness of positions on the need to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear program`. At the same time, he stressed, "We want the United States to help us achieve the goal." /2322/1432
