PUTIN: AIRCRAFT-BUILDING BUSINESS MUST BE COMMERCIALLY PROFITABLE
RIA Novosti
ZHUKOVSKY (Moscow region), February 22 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian aircraft-building industry must be prepared to successfully compete with other aviation powers. Russian president Vladimir Putin made this statement in the town of Zhukovsky (Moscow region) where a visiting session of the presidium of the country' State Council on the development of the Russian aircraft-building industry until 2015 is being held.
President Putin gave to understand that relying on domestic demand alone would not ensure a stable work of the enterprises of the Russian aircraft-building industry and an equal load on them.
Most states use a colossal reserve to successfully promote products on such a large-scale market, he stressed.
"Competition here is going between whole aviation powers, not individual national companies," Mr. Putin said.
In the struggle for this market, one cannot rely on protectionism alone because, in the words of the head of state, this is a shortcut to a stagnation and lower quality of one of the high-tech domestic industries.
In connection with this, the president came out for providing access to aircraft building for private investments.
"We can and must provide access to aircraft building for private investments. The aircraft-building industry as a whole must be commercially profitable and attractive," Vladimir Putin said.
To expand the geography of our partnership and build up the export potential, we should make extensive use of cooperation ties, the president stated.
He explained that he meant "an interested attraction of foreign capital and progressive technologies into Russian projects, as well as active participation by domestic producers in international aviation alliances".
The president hopes that "the concentration of resources on promising directions will allow Russia to achieve tangible results already in the near future."
