RUSSIA HANDS OVER SECURITY SYSTEM PLAN TO EU
RIA Novosti
MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - "We handed over the latest version of the Russian part of the common external security 'roadmap'. It contains results of recent consultations on this issue," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said following a meeting with his counterpart from Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.
Luxembourg currently holds the rotating EU presidency.
"We see that our positions have recently been getting closer on the basis of mutual understanding that the formation of a common security system is highly important for European stability," Mr. Lavrov noted.
He said that 'roadmaps' on four areas are to be drafted by the Russia-EU summit on May 10 in Moscow.
"However, certain issues need serious discussion," he noted.
The four common areas between Russia and the European Union are the economy, internal security, external security, science and culture.
Mr. Asselborn reaffirmed that some of the four common area's problems remained unresolved.
"But we hope to achieve their joint solution during the Moscow summit in May," Mr. Asselborn said.
