RUSSIAN DISPLAYS AT ABU DHABI ARMS SHOW TO EXCEED 500
MOSCOW, February 8 (RIA Novosti) - During the seventh International Defense Exhibition IDEX 2005 to be held in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi, Russia will display more than 500 exhibits, including top-notch weapons systems, equipment, instruments and ammunition to fit virtually all armed services and branches, a spokesperson for the Rosoboronexport state unitary company told RIA Novosti.
The united national pavilion, which area will be about 1,000 square meters, will house materiel and dual-use equipment from 40 major companies and organizations of the Russian defense industry, the spokesperson noted.
Given that the UAE and Kuwaiti armies operate many Russian-made BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), Rosoboronexport is going to display a full-scale example of their upgrade, the spokesperson said.
The vehicle will also be demonstrated in the field. Its running performance and firepower will be demonstrated at the Maqatra firing range and its wet-gap crossing characteristics will be showcased at the artificial channel on the premises of the show, Rosoboronexport said.
The upgraded BMP-3 IFV is fitted with the Shtora-1 cutting-edge defensive system against precision-guided weapons; a new air conditioner; an Arab-language electronic assistant to the driver and the gunner; the APP-688 gearshift device; an antitank guided missile system (ATGM) autoloader; the driver's rear-view camera; an advanced fume extractor and the Raduga-2 fire-suppressant system.
These systems have been tested in harsh environments, including the Arabian region, where they proved their top-notch characteristics and reliability.
Slated for February 12-17, the IDEX 2005 arms show is the major Middle East event of the kind and among the top arms shows in the world.
