Russian official says no obstacle in completing Bushehr power plant

Moscow, March 19, IRNA -- A Russian nuclear official said here Friday that Russia is determined to continue cooperation with Iran on completion of the under-construction Bushehr nuclear power plant. Head of Federal Service for Nuclear Inspection Andrei Malayshev, in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Qolamreza Shafei said recent changes in the government makeup has not altered the organization responsibilities. "We do not face obstacle in carrying out our responsibilities," he added. He further brushed aside reports by some Russian press quoting him as saying that the power plant is gripped with financial difficulties. "The project does not face technical and financial difficulties and we are determined to complete the project." The two side further said the work in process to complete the power plant is satisfactory. Malyshev expressed hope that cooperation between the two nations will be strengthened in the future. The Russian official said in a press conference on Wednesday that "There are no serious technical problem at the construction site." Malyshev said, "Russia is complying with its obligations under the agreements and contracts on the construction of reactors and turbines." "The part of equipment, which is necessary to complete the construction, should have been bought from Europe that bans supply of such equipment to Iran," Malyshev said. But `now it`s possible to solve all these problems and there are no reasons for doubting this Iranian facility is over`, Malyshev stressed. Under the Russian-Iranian agreement, the Federal Service for Nuclear Supervision "will provide aid to Iran to commission the nuclear power plant in Bushehr", the official said. NB/215 End
