Russian FM: No one can blame Russia for cooperating with Iran
IRNA
Moscow, Nov 11, IRNA -- Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Tuesday that no one can talk Russia into curtailing its nuclear cooperation with Iran. A report released by the Interfax News Agency, quoting Ivanov as telling reporters in the Armenian capita city of Yerevan, that no one can charge Russia with proliferation of weapons of mass destruction because of its cooperation with Iran in the construction of Bushehr nuclear power plant. He added that at present, Russia and EU have similar positions towards Iran`s nuclear program. Ivanov reiterated the transparency of Iran-Russia nuclear cooperation for peaceful application. "Given that Iran has already declared the suspension of its uranium enrichment process, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors can start inspecting Iran`s atomic activities. "Iran has also declared its will sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) additional protocol and return the spent atomic fuel from Bushehr power plant to Russia," he added. The Russian minister said that Iranian officials have also announced their approval of the inspection of their nuclear facilities by IAEA inspectors without any restriction. The minister underlined that under current conditions, suspicions about Iran having taken any step to develop weapons of mass destruction is highly unlikely, even in theory. Other Russian officials including President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Secretary of the Russian Security Council Vladimir Rushailo in their meetings with the Secretary of Iran`s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani on Monday confirmed the transparency of Iran`s nuclear program.
