Moscow, 16 Feb (ITAR-TASS) -- The new Russian air defence missile system S-400 Triumf is capable of hitting any air enemy targets at long ranges, ITAR-TASS learned at the Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday. The new weapon discriminates aircraft, manufactured under Stealth technology, and destroys airborne early warning and control systems (AWACS). Until now, they were regarded as invulnerable in operations of the "Storm in Desert" type. Triumf can hit these targets at a distance of 400 kilometres. Russian Triumf is designed to fight present-day and future air attack means. American Tomahawk cruises are ordinary targets for S-400s, the destruction of which is not difficult. According to its specifications, Triumf eclipses the Patriot air defence system of the third generation, now under development in the United States, and future air defence systems of European states. The distinguishing feature of the new Triumf missile is its ability to operate with rockets of various generations. This was confirmed at a proving round on February 12. The tests were attended by Russian Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev. He praised Triumf, calling it a weapon of the 21st century.
