Moscow, July 14 INTERFAX. The Russian Ministry of Defense jointly with other state agencies takes measures to toughen control over export of defense materials and technologies in the interests of Russia's national security and taking into account provisions of International law. That was announced be the Chief of the Armed Forces General staff A. Kvashnin in a conversation with an INTERFAX reporter.
According to him, the coordination between the Export Control Commission of the Russian Defense Ministry and law enforcement agencies is consolidating and it "allows to prevent and stop attempts at exporting defense-related goods banned for export".
The general Staff Chief noted that "Russian organizations' compliance with the missile technologies" control (MTCR) is thoroughly monitored ". along the way, "two missions are accomplished: on one hand, preventing activities downgrading defense capability of our country, on the other - precluding violations of the assumed International obligations."
As A. Kvashnin pointed out, "the danger of proliferation of materials and technologies allowing to manufacture weapons of mass destruction and means of their delivery is quite obvious". Stating this, the Russian top military official understood that "for Russia - a party in the nuclear weapons non-proliferation treaty and the MTCR - this rule is sacred, whatever the recipient country might be."
At the same time, said A. Kvashnin, "we do not see any obstacles to developing traditional military and technical cooperation with foreign countries, including conventional weapons, and intend to continue such cooperation in accordance with existing agreements, Russia's interests and regulations of the International law."
