THE LATEST STATEMENT BY RUSSIAN DEFENCE MINISTER IGOR RODIONOV SHOULD NOT BE UNDERSTOOD LITERALLY, SAID SERGEI YASTRZHEMBSKY MOSCOW, DECEMBER 27. (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT NATALYA SALNIKOVA).

At the briefing in the Kremlin today press secretary of the Russian President Sergei Yastrzhembsky recommended that the statement of Defence Minister Igor Rodionov should not be understood literally. On Wednesday, the Defence Minister made a report in which he named China, Iran, Pakistan and some other countries as Russia's strategic enemies. According to Yastrzhembsky, Rodionov meant the hypothetical threats to Russia which "may appear and may not appear" along the entire perimeter of Russian borders.
