Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-back said that achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula requires cooperation not only between the two Koreas but also with neighboring countries and the international community. He added that the ROK Defense Ministry will maintain deterrence against North Korea through a strong ROK-US posture, while steadily pursuing a "two-track approach" to ease military tensions and build mutual trust.

On November 1 (local time), Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-back attended the 12th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He stressed the Korean government's commitment to realizing denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Minister Ahn stated, "This year marks the evaluation of the achievements of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which will guide the construction of the ASEAN community for the next 20 years, has been announced. The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea fully supports the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. These efforts will maintain ASEAN's centrality amid the rapidly changing security environment and further highlight the importance of the ADMM-Plus as a key multilateral cooperation platform."

Minister Ahn outlined the direction of defense cooperation to advance the Korea-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), as presented by President Lee Jae-myung at the Korea-ASEAN Summit held last month. The vision underscores Korea's aim to be a contributor of hope for ASEAN, a springboard for innovation-driven growth, and a reliable partner for peace and stability.

Minister Ahn said, "Security cooperation grows stronger when people-centered values, the capabilities of future generations, and military strength are all considered together. The Republic of Korea's Ministry of National Defense will invite young officers from ASEAN member states to help them grow as specialists, and moving forward, we will expand such educational exchanges."

He added, "Building on the Republic of Korea's advanced defense industry, we will strengthen cooperation with ASEAN in defense production, military logistics, and technology. By promoting technological collaboration, we aim to generate synergistic effects across the economy and society, extending beyond defense cooperation and contributing to mutually beneficial growth and shared prosperity."

Minister Ahn also stated, "As a partner for peace and stability, the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea will actively participate in efforts to promote peace and security for all, including ASEAN. We will contribute to building regional peace by leveraging our experience and infrastructure, particularly in strengthening the role of combat engineers and female soldiers within United Nations peacekeeping operations."
