S. Korea-China Defense Ministerial Meeting Held on the Sidelines of the 12th ADMM-Plus

On the afternoon of November 1, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back met with Dong Jun, Minister of National Defense of the People's Republic of China, during the 12th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Malaysia, where the two ministers exchanged views on key bilateral defense issues and matters of mutual interest.
This Korea-China defense ministerial meeting took place two years and five months after their last meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Asia Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue) in June 2023.
Both ministers agreed that the Korea-China summit held on the same day on the sidelines of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Gyeongju provided new momentum in bilateral relations. They decided to explore ways to expand exchanges in the defense sector as well.
Minister Ahn asked Minister Dong Jun to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
He also explained South Korea's position regarding Chinese activities in the Korea Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ) and surrounding seas, emphasizing the necessity for mutual respect and close communication between the two countries.
