S. Korea-Malaysia Defense Ministerial Meeting Held on the Sidelines of the 12th ADMM-Plus

Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back met with Haji Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malaysia's Minister of Defense and the Chair of ASEAN, on the sidelines of the 12th ADMM-Plus held on November 1. The two ministers discussed bilateral defense cooperation and ways to enhance Korea-ASEAN collaboration, including cooperation in the defense industry.

Minister Ahn acknowledged Malaysia's successful role as Chair of ASEAN, including its leadership of ADMM-Plus over the past year. He expressed hope that bilateral defense and defense industry cooperation will be further strengthened, noting that 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both ministers highly regarded the achievements in defense exchanges and cooperation, including continued interactions between high-ranking defense authorities and the regular operation of consultative bodies.

Minister Ahn sought Minister Khaled's interest in further expanding bilateral defense industry cooperation, building on the momentum from Malaysia's purchase of FA-50 aircraft in 2023 and the defense industry cooperation MoU signed during the recent ASEAN summit.

Minister Ahn concluded the meeting by requesting the Malaysian government's support for South Korea's policy aimed at achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula and the denuclearization of North Korea.
