Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back visited the 22nd Infantry Division at the eastern front on Wednesday, October 15, listened to soldiers' feedback on improving service conditions, and inspected the AI-based border security system.

Defense Minister Ahn held a meeting with about 40 junior and mid-level officers to listen to their opinions on improving service conditions, including the causes of the sharp decline in junior officer recruitment and potential solutions; the rise in mid-level officer retirement applications; and strategies to enhance officers' pride and morale. He emphasized that "improving soldiers' service conditions is the ministry's top priority in national defense and can no longer be postponed," and that "the quality of service conditions forms the foundation for maintaining a top-level combat readiness posture."

Minister Ahn stated, "Soldiers carry out special missions while prepared to sacrifice their lives for the nation. I will make every effort to establish a new pay and welfare system that reflects this noble dedication."

He then visited the observation post at the General Outpost (GOP) of the 22nd Infantry Division and encouraged the soldiers engaged in border operations and inspected the AI-based border security system.

Minister Ahn stated, "Establishing an AI-based border security system is a key to opening the door to a smart and strong military through structural reform. The reduction in frontline guard personnel made possible by this system will allow those troops to operate advanced weapon systems and transform into robust, combat-ready forces through realistic, combat-oriented training."
