Defense Minister Meets with Romanian Minister of Economy at Seoul ADEX 2025

On Monday, October 20, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back met with Radu-Dinel Miruță, Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense and defense industry sectors.
Minister Ahn noted that since the bilateral relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership in 2008, cooperation between Korea and Romania has steadily expanded across multiple areas, with remarkable recent progress in the defense industry sector.
To further advance bilateral cooperation in the defense industry, Minister Ahn requested the active support and engagement of Romania's Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, which oversees the nation's industrial and economic policy, including the defense sector.
Minister Ahn expressed his expectation that Korea's advanced weapon systems, such as the K9 self-propelled howitzers introduced by Romania last year, will serve as key assets in strengthening Romania's defense capabilities.
Minister Ahn also encouraged Romania to take an active interest in Korea's advanced defense products such as the K2 tanks and the Redback armored vehicles, emphasizing their potential to contribute significantly to Romania's ongoing military modernization efforts.
Lastly, Minister Ahn emphasized that North Korea's advancing nuclear and missile capabilities, along with its unlawful military cooperation with Russia, pose a grave threat to global security. He urged the Romanian government to support South Korea's policy toward achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula and complete denuclearization in North Korea.
