South Korean National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the occasion of a massive military parade in China on Wednesday, the Yonhap News Agency reported, citing Woo's office.

The two sides briefly exchanged greetings before watching the parade in Tian'anmen Square, it added, without elaborating on whether further interaction took place, Yonhap said.

China held a massive military parade in central Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Yonhap earlier reported that if a meeting between Woo and Kim takes place, Woo is likely to convey a personal message from President Lee Jae-myung to the North Korean top leader.

Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), arrived in Beijing, on Tuesday for the commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
