Seoul, Feb 29, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- The six-party talks on nuclear confrontation which began on Wednesday and ended Saturday in the Korean Peninsula "were very successful." The appraisal was given by the head of the South Korean delegation to the talks and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lee Soo-hyuck on his arrival from Beijing on Sunday. He regards as a great success the so-called statement of the chairman (approved by the results of the second round) and the first written document received over 16 months on the present nuclear crisis in Korea. Lee also told reporters with pride that North Korea "did not spurn South Korea`s specific proposal" on a peaceful settlement of the nuclear problem. According to the deputy minister, during the discussions Seoul offered financial compensation for a possible freezing of the North Korean nuclear program, which step was approved by China, Russia, the United States and Japan. /LS/210 End
