Koreas Discuss Railroad Connection
2003-12-05
South and North Korea held the second day of working-level talks on the reconnection of cross-border railways and roads in Sokcho, Gangwon Province on Wednesday (Dec. 3).
Their meeting covered such outstanding issues as signals and communications for the completion of two sets of railways across the eastern and western areas of the heavily fortified border between the two Koreas.
They visited each side of the border to check on the progress of the project Tuesday.
The South Korean section of the railway on the western side of the border has already been completed.
The western railway is to connect the two capitals, Seoul and Pyongyang, and reach Sinuiju, a North Korean city bordering China. The other line is to run northward along the east coast across the border.
