A newly created U.S. quick-strike brigade will conduct its first overseas exercise in the Republic of Korea.

"About 65 soldiers, four light armored vehicles and other assisting vehicles will arrive at the Air Force base in Osan Friday for a 10-day drill," a U.S. Forces Korea official said on Monday.

He said the soldiers belong to the third brigade of Second Infantry Division, based in Fort Lewis, Washington.

This is the first time for the "Stryker" brigade to be deployed outside U.S. soil since its creation. The United States has been forming six special combat teams and completed one last month in Fort Lewis.

The Stryker brigades are quick-strike teams that can be deployed faster than traditional heavy forces, in accordance with the nation's new global strategy.

"There will not be any joint military exercise with Korean forces. When the brigade finishes the 10-day drill, they will leave for the U.S.," the official said.

The brigade will conduct its exercise at a base in Yongpyeong, Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province.
