NK Athletes to Travel by Air for Universiade

South and North Korea have agreed that Northern athletes and supporters will travel by air for Daegu Summer Universiade slated for Aug. 21-31, government sources said Sunday (July 6).
The agreement came at a working-level meeting the two Koreas have held since Friday at Mount Geumgang to discuss the North's participation in the Aug. 21-31 athletic meet in the South's third largest city of Daegu.
The two sides had been expected to agree on the North's using a land route after Chang Ung, a North Korean member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said last week he prefers traveling by land than by air.
"It was once considered for the North Korean athletes and its cheering squad to travel by land. After negotiations, however, it was agreed that the North Koreans will travel by air," an official said.
Officials said the North expressed it will send a smaller delegation this time than for last year's Asian Games in Busan.
They added the two sides agreed to follow precedents set in last year's Asiad when making preparations
