S-N Family Reunions to Start Friday
2003-06-27
Mt. GEUMGANG - The seventh round of inter-Korean family reunions will take place Friday (June 27) here.
A total of 100 South Koreans arrived at this scenic mountain resort, waiting to meet their long-separated family members and relatives from the North. Most of the people participating in the reunions are aged, not having seen each other for five decades since the end of the 1950-1953 Korean War.
Ten of the South Koreans here who are physically dependent will be allowed to bring one relative each for assistance.
The reunions have so far followed a strict policy permitting only a single individual to meet family members from the other side.
The visitors are expected to hold six meetings with their North Korean family members to last around 11 hours in total. The meetings will take place at Haegeumgang Hotel and Moknangwan.
During the second phase of the meetings from Monday to Wednesday, 100 North Koreans are expected to reunite with 476 of their South Korean family members at the sites.
The first 100-man delegation from South Korea on Thursday crossed the border on Seolbong, a ferryboat that services the inter-Korean sea route. Around 51 staff personnel and 30 reporters will accompany them.
